First to HanCheng the quest leads. On the crowded bus ride, the lucky traveler for simple things is thankful. A seat, food.
Luckier still, conversation. Two members of the National Guard of China and a Chinese Electrical Engineer join in conversation.
Outside, rain falls. Seeing the traveler about to alight, it obligingly stops.
Another, smaller bus, brings her farther. Finally, no more buses run. The last 2 kilometer she begins on foot. A small roadside stand provides peaches. One bought, one a gift. Unable to store an extra peach, the traveler to a family at their door regifts it.
Pig stalls reminiscent of Honduras'. Walking along the road, alone save occasional motorbikes and trucks passing.
Caves!
Corn!
And finally, 党家村, Dangjiacun, a 14th century timber and farming village.
The traveler through the interlocked buildings wanders, villagers sit outside talking, children play in the street.
And as evening falls, tiny amounts of money change hands at the nightly mahjong competitions. The traveler, given a seat at the table, watches old acquaintances play, largely focused on their game, occasionally chatting with her and with each other, enjoying the warm evening.
